The first rule of hiring.....

The first rule of hiring is: “If you want a great employee and you want them to stay with you for a long time, you have to make sure that there is a good match, you have to make sure that they stay motivated and they have to want to be a good employee.”

To put these even more simply....If you want a great employee....hire a great employee and then take care of them.

The idea for this eBook started after I ran an ad on a local website for a sales representative and within about 4 hours, I received several hundred resumes. This economy and the lay-offs that have taken place have created a situation where there are hundreds and even thousands of people all going after the same position.

My background is sales and sales management. Over the last 25 years or so, I have looked at thousands and thousands of resumes; I have hired several hundred people as a direct supervisor, a hiring manager or as an influencer. I feel that I have a pretty good idea of what makes a great candidate and what makes a great employee.

This eBook will give you some insights as to what managers look for, how to capture our attention and things that you can do to position yourself as top contender for the job that you are looking for.

I met a man named Jim Cathcart several years ago at a training exposition in Atlanta. Although I had just met Jim, he’s been one of my personal heroes. Jim has written a ton of books including the “Acorn Principle”, another called “Relationship Selling” and just recently, a book called “The Eight Competencies of Relationship Selling.” Jim is a professional speaker and is the 2001 Toastmaster’s International Golden Gavel Award Winner. His passion is personal development and cultivation. Jim’s mantra is...

"How would the person I'd like to be...
...do the things I'm about to do?"
This single thought is one that can lead to a great deal of personal evolution. Let’s give this some discussion before we go any further into this e-book. I don’t think that any of us wake up in the morning and tell ourselves that we want to fail. There are, however, many things in the course of the day, especially if you are unemployed, which will cause negativity and self-doubt. Hopefully, when you go through this process, you are in a positive and open minded frame of mind.

So, who is it that you’d like to be? Director of Marketing? HR Manager? Receptionist? Administrative Assistant? Customer Service Rep?

...How would THAT person do the things that you are about to do? At the interview, how would that person dress and act? What questions would they have for the person they are being interviewed by? How would they initiate contact? How would they follow up?
